HIS GOODNESS - KRISTEN DONNELLY

A few days into the trip we explored a mission outside of the LRdE grounds. Taking our medical bags, we went down the road to a village

that has little-to-no contact with the rest of the community. While we were there we evaluated medical conditions, rashes, poorly healing bones (that had been broken for weeks or months), and we were able treat many illnesses. We did all that we could to provide nutrition in vitamin form to every child and prayed with each family we came to. As we neared the truck that would take us back to LRdE, we almost missed a family that was sitting next to their hut at the end of our path. That’s when I saw this sweet child. Wide eyed and curious, it took me a few minutes to realize that he couldn’t see. I knelt down next to him and he giggled as I spoke to him in broken Spanish. We played and laughed and I remember thinking, “This little boy is the most joyful child I have ever met.”

I didn’t know it then, but I would soon find that this moment would replay itself a thousand times as the days and weeks and months passed by. It would forever be the day that God used a little boy that could not see, to open my eyes to His goodness in any and every situation. I learned that it is God who supplies the fruit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, etc..) Our job is to stay connected to him, close enough to follow His lead, close enough to surrender our lives, and close enough to let go of the things and desires we hold so tightly. And if we do, He promises that we will not be able to contain all the good things He has for us to come.

“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. ”

Luke 6:38
